Writing

About Me:

Photolookingaway.JPG

From the age of 8, I knew that I wanted to write. Being alone with a notebook and (perfectly pointy) pencil, surrounded by a mess of books -- that's always been my happy place.

I spent many years teaching language arts, trying to squeeze in time to write. Then I found haiku. Each poem -- with such few words -- captured a snapshot of a time, a place, and feeling. And I loved getting lost in each moment.

When I had my own kids and began reading current picture books, I realized that they also captured one moment and big feelings in only 32 pages. Writing, poetry, teaching -- it all came together and made sense to me, so I sharpened some pencils and got to work.

I found an amazing kidlit community with SCBWI, 12 X 12 Picture Book Writing Challenge, and Storystorm. I dream about one day sharing my own success story and giving back by mentoring aspiring writers.

When I'm not playing with words, I enjoy adventuring outdoors with my identical sons, binge-watching dark TV series, and people watching, anywhere.
